SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail protection system, which is is intended to verify whether an e-mail message was sent by an official server. Using SPF protection for a particular domain name will prevent the forging of email addresses created with the domain. In simple words: enabling this function for a domain name generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP addresses of the servers that are allowed to send email messages from mail boxes under the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it will exist on all DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. When a new e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it goes through verifies if it comes from an approved server. If it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, but when it does not come from a server part of the SPF record for the domain, it is rejected. Thus nobody will be able to mask an e-mail address to make it appear as if you're e-mailing spam. This method is also known as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Web Hosting

If you host your domain names in a shared web hosting account on our end and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you are able to enable SPF protection for them with several clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in its own section where you are able to view which domain names are already secured. For those that are not, you can enable the SPF protection service and manage a number of things during the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your e-mails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and even to create a rule that email messages can be sent only when your domain names include our MX records. The aforementioned choice is the most secure one, but you can use it when we manage the email addresses for your domain names and you're not using another email service provider. The newly generated records will propagate within a day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an e-mail with your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account from us, you are able to protect your email addresses by activating the SPF protection service for every domain name hosted in the account with just a few clicks. This can be done through the Emails section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is provided with the semi-dedicated accounts and even in case you have no previous practical experience with these kinds of matters, you won't have any kind of troubles to enable the protection. All that you will need to do is to find a domain from a drop-down menu and then type in the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. When the updated record propagates, messages from your emails will be mailed globally only if they're sent from that particular server. When your email addresses are taken care of by our company and not by some third-party supplier, you will also be able to take advantage of an option for email messages to be sent only if the domain name contains our MX records and this is the safest option. Should you have any kind of questions about thisfeature, you'll be able to contact our support crew 24/7.
